Engineering, especially electrical engineering, is going through a period of rapid change and expansion. What was considered state-of-the-art a few years ago is now often no more than a few lectures in one of our undergraduate courses.

The driving force behind this bewildering expansion is research and the Department has a strong tradition of excellence in research. Research in its broadest sense is exploration of the unknown. It is the result of an idea and a belief that there is something new and exciting to be found. Research is what differentiates a true university from a teaching-only institution and the Department is fortunate to be situated in a progressive, high-tech community, with strong ties to local industry. The local entrepreneurial activities in electronics are particularly strong, creating an hospitable environment for challenging research and professional development.
