The University of Otago’s Centre for Bioengineering & Nanomedicine was formed in late 2009 and spans both the Dunedin and Christchurch campuses.

The Dunedin hub of the Centre for Bioengineering and Nanomedicine (Centre) is based in the University’s Centre for Innovation. The Centre has a strong academic underpinning and an ethos of applied science and, as bioengineering is inherently interdisciplinary, involves researchers from a variety of Departments across the Divisions of Health Sciences and Sciences.

Through multifaceted research environments and commercial sector partnerships we aim to facilitate the commercial delivery of biomedical and scientific innovations for the benefit of New Zealand and the international community. The Centre provides diverse opportunities for commercial and industry sectors to collaborate with world class, cutting edge researchers at the University of Otago in Dunedin.

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of bioengineering the Centre incorporates a number of collaborative research initiatives. Research within the Centre is currently focussed on:

  • pharmaceutical engineering;
  • biomedical devices; and
  • biomaterials.

Our research themes are constantly expanding please contact us for information about developing themes.
